The Last Girl: review about Nadia’s Murad book
Keywords:
Islamic State- gender – Yazidis – Sexual Slavery – Compliance.Abstract
Through this review, it purposes to reflect on the efforts of the Yazidi rape victim, slave, and author of the autobiography The last girl: my story of prison and struggle against the Islamic State. Her actions range from the international criminal prosecution of fighters members of the Islamic State terrorist group to her influence in preventing and trying to mitigate the effects of sexual violence related to armed conflict. The author's work transposes the condition and trajectory of a free Yazidi woman to a victim of sexual slavery, and from a refugee –surviving victim – to a human rights activist. Official documents, such as resolutions and reports produced by the UN and the European Parliament, as well as articles and other research sources
consulted, give relevance to the narrative presented in the book. Today, Nadia Murad is one of the voices that reverberate across the globe not only in favor of accountability members of the Islamic State. It also works in partnership with non-governmental organizations in a more victim-surviving bias. The Murad Code Project intends to avoid the repetition of the
experiences narrated in the book and can be an ethical influence focused on the good practices of the states in facing sexual violence related to armed conflicts.
