Female underrepresenation in criminal statistics is a universally observed phenomenon and raises debates in the academic fields about its probable causes. In this article, theories are adressed that aim to explain this asymmetry from the scientific paradigm of the traditional Human Sciences, as well as from the emerging naturalistic paradigm, especially by Evolutionary Psychology. In the end, it is concluded that it is possible to contribute to the debate from this new paradigma, despite the resisteance suffered by theorists of traditional Human Sciences.
